Topic: CONTENDING FOR THE FAITH
Text: Jude 1:3
Introduction:
To contend means to fight or struggle for something and it requires energy and strength.
Faith is the confident we have in God. Faith is also having trust and believing on something expected or and expectation.
Jude chapter 1 verse 3 is written as an instruction or a warning to Christian brethrens admonishing them about what our fathers of faith passed down to us as an inheritance. Many had left their grounds of faith, the word of God, being the foundation of the faith. Many strange and false doctrines have infiltrated the Christian fold and the Church. Therefore, Jude’s cry to the Church, fight this fight of faith, abhor the false teachers with their doctrinal falsehood aiming to scatter the fold.
1 Corinthians 12:8 points out the nine gifts of the holy spirit given to edify and build the Church. Many do not even believe in the holy spirit and the gifts but the combination of the gift of wisdom, knowledge and prophecy gives birth to revelations of the inner thoughts and mind of God.
KEY QUESTIONS TO PONDER UPON:
1) WHO AM I IN CHRIST JESUS?
2) AM I AMONG THOSE JUDE REFERRED TO AS FALSE TEACHERS?
3) ARE YOU AMONG THOSE WHO HAVE ABANDONED THEIR RESPONSIBILITIES BECAUSE OF FALSE TEACHINGS?
CONCLUSION:
HOW DO WE CONTEND FOR THE FAITH:
We have our guiding principles as contained in our Apostolic Tenets to guide and shape our faith as well as aid in our fight for the faith and to remain grounded and rooted in Christ. Fight a good fight of Faith.
